PAUL SIGNAC: "Le Palais des Papes, Avignon (The Papal Palace, Avignon)", c.1900

Along with his mentor Georges Seurat, Paul Signac (1863-1925) is the key figure of the pointillism. Signac loved sailing, and he traveled to almost all the French Coast, specially the Mediterranean Coast, where he created some of his most brilliant and colorful compositions, such as the example illustrated here. Signac was also an important influence to later artists
 like Henri Matisse.
